Tom Mills Selected Among Best in Dallas
Mills Included in D Magazine’s Listing of Top Attorneys

(Dallas) At times controversial and often outspoken, Tom Mills is always at the top of his game. And that outstanding work on behalf of his clients has apparently not gone unnoticed.

Mills, name partner in Tom Mills & Associates, LLP, has been selected among the top criminal defense attorneys for D Magazine’s inaugural “Best Lawyers in Dallas” list. The list of 140 attorneys from 20 specialties was compiled based on peer nominations for those who “exemplify the best of the bar.” The list was published in the magazine’s May 2001 issue.

“Many times you see these lists and wonder how the selections were made,” says Mills. “Knowing that these were peer-based nominations, at least for me, gives it added credibility. It not only means you’re doing a good job, but also that your contemporaries are taking notice of your successes.”

Specializing in white-collar criminal defense, Mills has practiced law for 29 years, most recently in practice with his wife, Ellen Presby, a civil trial attorney. Having tried cases in approximately half of the United States, Mills’ experience includes representation in many diverse, high-stakes cases. They include executives of high-profile corporations, brokerage houses and defense contractors; acquitted Dallas ISD trustee Dan Peavy; the alleged (and acquitted) kidnapper of Madalyn Murray O’Hair; and nuns protesting nuclear radiation damages.

Mills began his private practice in law in 1972 after completing a Ford Foundation Grant Project at the Washington, D.C., Public Defender Office. Before launching Tom Mills & Associates, he was a partner at Vial, Hamilton, Koch & Knox and head of the white-collar crime section at Gardere & Wynne.

He has taught at Southern Methodist University School of Law and a law school in Poland, as well as serving as a guest lecturer at the University of North Texas. He is currently working on a book on trial strategy. He is board certified in criminal law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and by the National Board of Trial Advocacy.

He is a former chairman of the Dallas Bar Association Criminal Justice Committee, is a member of the Texas Criminal Defense Lawyers Association and is a life member of the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers. He received the President’s Commendation from the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers in 1978. He has served on the Complex Crimes Committee and the White Collar Crime Committee of the American Bar Association.

Devoted exclusively to complex criminal defense litigation, Tom Mills & Associates, LLP is a law firm focused on helping its clients navigate the criminal justice system. The firm’s website can be found at www.millsandwilliams.com.
