(Dallas) - Managing
partner, Christie Williams has been named for the second time to the
National Law Journal’s elite list of the top 40 young litigators in
the nation. The full list is published in the journal's May 2005
issue.The
selection was based on peer nominations and reporter research.
Special consideration was given to litigators who have achieved
“substantial success” serving as lead or co-lead counsel in the
lawsuits they have been involved in.
Williams’
recent court victories kept her in the National Law Journal’s
spotlight. In 2003, Williams won a federal acquittal for a client
caught in a conspiracy-to-manufacture charge that involved 1,000
marijuana plants discovered in a refrigerated trailer in Texas. The
case netted multiple defendants, but Williams' client survived the
federal investigation.
A few months later,
Williams co-led another highly publicized defense, winning an
acquittal for a government contractor accused of bribing former Ohio
Representative James Traficant. Traficant ended up in prison on
account of the bribery scandals, but Williams worked together with
the firm's founding partner, Tom Mills, to convince the jury her
client was not guilty.
Currently, Williams
is defending a police officer implicated in Dallas’ notorious “fake
drug scandal” – the latest high-profile case for Williams' growing
résumé.
After a noteworthy
career as an assistant district attorney in the Dallas County DA’s
office, Williams, entered private practice with criminal defense
attorney Tom Mills in 1999, earning name partner status by 2002.
In addition to her
legal practice, Williams frequently appears in the news media as a
legal expert, serving as an on-air analyst for numerous media
outlets including Court-TV, KXAS-TV Channel 5, KLIF 570 AM and KRLD
1080 AM.
Williams was elected to the board of the National
Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and she is also the former
chairwoman of the Criminal Justice Committee for the Dallas Bar
Association. Williams is board certified in criminal law by the
Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
